Lapford Mill Cottage

Lapford Mill Cottage is available for self-catering breaks and benefits from a double bed room with four poster bed and a further twin room, bath & lavatory upstairs and shower & lavatory downstairs. The grounds extend to about four acres with fishing available by prior agreement. A gas barbecue is available.

What a beautiful place to stay. The cottage was immaculate and the gardens gorgeous. We were made to feel so welcome by the owners and would highly recommend staying here if you want to relax and get away from it all. Lapford also boasts a friendly local pub ‘ The Old Malt Scoop’ which is equally friendly and a menu to suit all. All in all we had a fantastic time away.

A truly welcome country escape from busy Birmingham! Our 3 night stay at the cottage was delightful: the cottage was warm and has plenty of space, is clean and well presented. It has lovely views over the grounds and stands next to the old mill which is a unique and fascinating feature. Alex made us feel very welcome and is the perfect host. We would definitely recommend this property and will be back soon.

Well apportioned converted barn, all facilities provided as fully described in listing.Warm and welcoming. Great situation to drive about and see Devon, including Tiverton, Exeter and many other places in the area. Fantastic place for dogs to roam in the very large field adjacent to the cottage. Near shops and garage should you have problem with car as we did. Nice walk to dog friendly pub, which i can highly recommend for food and hospitality. Very friendly and welcoming Owner with added attraction of seeing Mill. All in all a very enjoyable and pleasant stay. We will be back again next year to see progress on repairing working mill. Very highly recommended.

Beautiful historic location & ideal base for exploring Devon.

The property was clean, spacious, & comfortable. We found the property ideal for our relaxing break with our dog & we especially enjoyed the large peaceful garden grounds. We found some good woodland walks nearby & also enjoyed days out visiting the many excellent National Trust run locations nearby.

Jonathan F

The host Alex was very helpful from greeting us until we left the property was exactly as advertised and very clean.perfect for a visit to the area. Would recommend to anyone.

clevis j

Hwe enjoyed this lovely cottage. It had all we needed and location gave choices for walks around the area. We especially liked sitting outside on the patio with a drink at the end of the day.

Great place

Michaela A

We found it very convenient & comfy. Walks round Lapford across the mid Devon countryside. Convenient shop open late and early 2 mins away. Hosts were perfect.

Alexis Weedon

Lovely Mill cottage stay. Alex, the host, was very helpful and even offered to give us a private tour of the Mill.

julie t

A lovely family break in a beautiful setting. Very welcoming and helpful host.

Deana E

It is comfortable & there is everything you need.

Lilian R

We had a great time staying here during the Jubilee week. Alex was a great host and very welcoming. The grounds to the Mill are beautiful and our dog loved running around (And barking sorry!) . The cottage was clean and a good base to relax in after long days on the beach or in the woods. If you get the chance have a coffee in the Mill as Alex has a vast knowledge on the workings and history. See you again!

Daniel M

Lovely cottage and host. Particularly appreciated having access to gard n and grounds - great for the dog.

Heather S

Very quaint cottage in a beautiful spot. Local shop extremely well stocked and staff very helpful.

The grounds of the property are extensive and interesting to explore but a look round the mill, an ongoing project, is something to definitely look forward to.

Very pleasant and friendly owners of the cottage who go out of their way to accommodate visitors and are close at hand if needed.

Dogs made very welcome which was a bonus as they were able to explore the grounds and enjoy themselves.

The beds are fabulous and so I would recommend this cottage for the sleep quality as the area is dark and quiet.

The kitchen is very easy to use and everything in good working order.

Alan W

Relaxing cottage with nice grounds for the kids and dog to explore. Looking forward to seeing Alex’s plans for the mill fully rolled out! Really friendly host. Intermittent Wi-Fi. Great days out to coast, forest and gorge and close to quaint pub with decent food.

Katherine M

We had a wonderfully relaxing time and will be visiting again soon x

Debs G

We had a fantastic time at the Lodge. Alex was so friendly and informative, the grounds and watermill are amazing. We'll definitely be returning

Sue K

Enjoyed our New Years Break some nice walks with our dogs , Fingle Bridge was one of our favourites.

Jill L

Lovely quiet getaway, our border terrier especially loved the large gardens and liked to visit the miniature ponies at the bottom of the garden. Lovely pub about 10 min walk from the cottage where our two teeenage boys enjoyed playing pool. The restaurant food was really good too. Big thumbs up to hosts Alex and Ann who made us feel so welcome - we had a fantastic last night in the licenced mill house. All round very enjoyable break, we look forward to a return visit 😄

Julie L

We had an amazing time staying at Alex's unique property and grounds. The house had everything you need and never once did we want for anything.

The Watermill is superb and Alex has clearly worked wonders restoring it back to a usable property to host gatherings in.

The grounds are lovely and so peaceful with 3 little Shetlands to greet you at the gate.

Overall it is a hidden gem and Alex was superb..... we will return in the future.

LISA J

Two days was not nearly enough to enjoy this gorgeous property. It was peaceful, beautiful grounds, and the cottage has been renovated to a very high standard. Lovely comfy beds, excellent linens, towels etc.

The host could not have been more welcoming, and I really enjoyed the tour of the mill, and his hospitality.

It’s easy to get to off a good road, and the village pub is a real find. The locals are very friendly, and our meals well presented, with great flavour. In short walking distance to the cottage is a Spar, which is so handy for the necessities.

I would love to return, and will be recommending it to friends and family.

Rachel l

very pleased with property in a great area and very relaxing. alex was very welcoming and helpfull and the land was perfect for the dog to run around and to take my daughter down to see the ponies. very happy i chose this cottage.

Rhys B

We enjoyed our short stay. The property is full of character. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. In better weather the grounds would give add an extra dimension to. the cottage.

Margaret W

We had a very nice couple of days at the Cottage, the host was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We would definitely consider coming back again at some point.

What a fantastic place to stay! Alex, Annie and Connor could not be more welcoming. Accommodation is exactly what a busy family needs, plenty of space inside, everything you need, and beautiful grounds for us and the dog to enjoy. The water mill is amazing and so full of history. The location is a perfect base to explore Devon and Cornwall or have lazy days around Lapford. Alex is really knowledgeable about local places to visit too. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely visit again to explore more!

Terri B

The owner is very welcoming, a fascinating property in the heart of Devon with lots of history and interest.

Marie A

This is a wonderful character property set in a beautiful setting and wonderful hosts. The grounds are spectacular and relaxing, including gardens, woodland and a mill.

Located in a lovely village and only 45 minutes from the beach.

Marie-Claire H

We stayed here for a couple of nights on our way down to Salcombe. Was the perfect way to relax. The grounds are lovely, the dog roamed free. We walked over the road into Alex’s bit of woodland and spent hours wading in the river with the kids and dog. Alex and his family were very friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble.

Sheri H

We had a lovely few days staying in the cottage next to the mill which Alex is renovating. The cottage is nice and fulfilled all our needs. The garden and grounds are fantastic and as it was our dog's first holiday she absolutely loved it!!

Alex was so helpful and he also gave us a tour of the mill which was very interesting along with a lovely cup of coffee.

I would definately recommend this place as you are within reach of lots of things to do and the opposite coasts are easy to reach. Hope to be back!

Jane S

We enjoyed a relaxing family break in this quaint cottage.

Our grandchildren loved playing in the gardens.

Alex, our host, was very helpful and accommodating.

Hope to return when next visiting family in the village.

Sharon P

We were warmly greeted by Alex & Anne who extended their hospitality to join them and their family that evening for a welcome drink in Alex’s fascinating bar. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable with a high standard of cleanliness which was very reassuring. After spending our days exploring we looked forward to the peaceful retreat of the beautiful garden to sip our chilled glass of wine or beer. Thank you Alex, Anne & Connor for being fabulous hosts, we had a great time.

Gill M

Alex & Anne were very welcoming & helpful.

The cottage is very old world & even boasts a four poster bed. Alex is very willing to show you round the old mill & demonstrate the working.

Sandra N

The time we spent here, celebrating my husband’s and his twin’s seventieth birthdays, could not have been better. Even the weather was sunny. Highly recommended.

Angela S

Lovely cottage, made better by Alex and Anne living next door, it made for a cosy and friendly atmosphere.

Brian D

Good accommodation with all amenities. Nice remote location but within fairly easy access to areas of interest. Overall excellent relaxing break

Joy B

We have just came back after staying in this beautiful mill cottage. Everything you'd imagine, waking up and sitting on the patio watching the birds was the perfect medicine, spotlessly clean, perfect hosts, beautiful walks, lovely pub just 10mins walk away, so much so we have booked with Alex to come back.

Liz H

Peaceful and quiet with lovely relaxing garden.

Antony K

In the middle of many locations, lovely and quiet just occasional train going by. Which I loved, station near by

Vivienne s

This is a quirky and homely cottage situated in the midst of some beautiful countryside. The owner Alex was exceptionally helpful and friendly and we loved the tour of the old mill next to the cottage.

Amanda S

Alex was very quick to reply to messages and made us feel at home. Really cosy cottage and the bar in the mill was an unexpected bonus! Well worth staying if you want a quiet location within drivable distance from Exeter and North Devon.

Steve W

All great. Secure grounds great for dog. Pub 10 minutes away. All great!

Hazel O

Excellent.

Phillip H

Lovely cottage with fantastic grounds. Lovely people. Made to feel very welcome. Perfect if you have a dog

Jenny C

The cottage was a good size for four adults.

Lots of old world charm in the cottage and the historic water mill next to it.

Comfortable rooms and well equipped.

Wi-fi slightly erratic in some rooms, but not a problem.

Situated in the middle of the county.

Lots of picturesque walks nearby, and about an hours drive from the beautiful north Devon coast.

David H

Alex and Ann were the perfect hosts. Lovely cottage with all we needed. Beautiful gardens, so much to explore. So many day trip options and local stuff to do too!

claire w

Charming period cottage situated perfectly for north & south Devon and both moors. Friendly owners. Peaceful , so perfect to re-charge the batteries. Pleasant grounds to have a wander through.

Lindsay M

Alex was an enthusiastic and welcoming host. The cottage and gardens are outstanding and equipped to a high standard. The beds and bedding were incredible. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property for a wonderful break.

Eileen C

Alex, along with Anne (his mum), were warm, friendly and helpful hosts, never intrusive but

always available when necessary. The striking features of the accommodation were the main bedroom with its four poster bed and complementary decor. The two bathrooms were a real plus and you can comfortably cook and eat in the kitchen. The patio at the back facing the garden which leads into extensive grounds made eating alfresco in the mornings and evenings an added treat on sunny days. The location means both north and south coasts of Devon are in reach within an hour or so by car and Exeter is even closer. There are some great circular walks into the surrounding countryside from the village which has a friendly pub that serves very good food. There is also a well-stocked shop attached the nearby petrol station which has all you might need, food, drink etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

David T

excellent - ideal for two adults and one dog Not best TV reception A little sprucing up (ie new cushions) would have given it 5 stars

julie s

Beautiful little cottage in the quiet countryside. Made to feel very welcome

Sam T

Beautiful setting, cosy and interesting, excellent host would recommend

Sharen M

Lovely, cosy cottage in nice surroundings. Unfortunately there were dusty cobwebs in abundance, not just on the high (out of reach) beams but on the artificial flowers on the window ledges and bedside pictures for example.

The bathrooms though were spotless and modern

vivian r

I found the property to be thoroughly clean, tidy and comfortable. The owner Alex was extremely helpful, and friendly. He was happy to show me around the mill his pride and joy I might add! I stayed three nights could have happily stayed a few more. A lovely part of Devon beautiful countryside, friendly locals in the village pub. Recommend a stay here.

William D

A very peaceful property away from hustle bustle, yet walking distance to a well-stocked small supermarket at the local garage. Ideal for a short stay with our 2 dogs, especially with the garden and paddocks. We had a warm welcome from the owners and as it was Christmas the tree and decorations were a lovely touch. Lovely bed linen.

sue W

Great base for exploring Devon. 😊

Sarah H

Thank you very much, booked last minute and had a great time

Day trips to the sea, great pub and good food in the village, peaceful cottage with beautiful green space and little Shetland ponies in far field

Thanks Alex

Muir M

We had a lovely week. Great access to Dartmoor. The place is comfy and warm.

Full of character, with huge grounds, ponies, and water mill. The internal doors are a bit noisy esp at night, and the shower could do with better moisture extraction. But it’s well equipped, dog friendly, and full of interest. Thanks for an enjoyable week.

Ian B

Great hosts , always at hand for help and advice.

Property spacious with all the things you may need for a short stay.

Wifi base Station is in owners house right next door , so signal may not reach into back of the house.

We had 5 really enjoyable days there and definitely consider returning. Thank you.

Janet & Alan G

Lovely accomodation with space for one double and two singles (with cot as needed). Lovely hosts, Alex and his mother, who stay next door and help whenever needed. Quiet part of mid Devon, lovely countryside and in the town of Lapford. Infrequent trains and buses so car is a must. Really easy to get to Bideford, Exeter and surrounding towns if desired. Lovely area, can walk around the immediate grounds also, local shop is less than 5 minutes (also a petrol station)

I would recommend thoroughly and feel it is good value for money.

Alex C

Lovely place to stay, great location, friendly hosts. Fantastic walks around the area. Great pub., The Malt Scoop serving excellent Tribute and food.

Adrian B

We could not have asked for anything better. Our cottage was comfortable, the gardens were lovely and our hosts Alex and Anne utterly delightful. We plan on returning before long

Sally S

Great location for exploring Devon with good access to Exmoor and Dartmoor.

Adrian B

Sharon M

This cottage was excellent in its surroundings, facilities and friendless of Alex and his mum.

Would definitely recommend as a place to stay

Sarah R

We had a very good five days at the watermill cottage. Alex and Annie were both very nice and very helpful.

We had our three dachshund's with us, they were also made welcome and felt at home, especially in the very large gardens/grounds.

Yes we would stay there again.

David B

an excellent place to stay with all the amenities you could possibly need house is equipped with everything you could need for your stay. Nice size garden to relax in if you wish, with old water mill right outside your door, the village and interesting church a short walk up the road. In the other direction a local garage with spar shop. You would have to go long way to beat Alexander and his mother as hosts with their attention to detail.Highly recommended

Michael W

The Cottage is a wonderful home from home, we were completely settled in in less than five minutes! Even the bad weather that we experienced did not detract from the beauty of the house and grounds.

A real bonus was discovering that the main bedroom has a four poster bed which is very comfortable indeed!

Phil & Sheila.

Philip B

We had a really peaceful stay. It was very rural which was what we wanted. The property was ideal for the dogs, we had 4 acres for them to run in. There are also some lovely walks locally. The house was comfortable and everything seemed to be thought of. I would return and highly recommend it. Alex was very nice and was very helpful.

Pauline T

Lovely property in a beautiful setting. The owners who live next door are so kind and welcoming and we had a very interesting tour of the old mill. The property is very cosy and has everything you. need for a perfect stay. The location is very good for access to lots of attractions and walking areas. The village has a lovely pub and a Spar shop.

Linda C

Pretty, comfortable cottage in the grounds of an old water mill. We felt very, very welcome and the cottage was spacious and fully equipped. Convenient for walking or just relaxing in the beautiful mill grounds. We certainly hope to return.

Helen S

A super mid point location for exploring North and South. Alex made us all feel very welcome and everyone (kids and dogs !) felt very comfortable. The heating was excellent and we were so cosy and slept brilliantly on the extremely comfy beds. The cottage has everything you could need including a much appreciated washing machine as the children enjoyed wading up nearby streams and jumping in the sea fully clothed ! A fantastic stay. Highly recommended.

Sarah M

Just returned from another fantastic few days at Lapford Mill Cottage. Both Alex and Ann are very accommodating and although they live on site they allow you just to get on with your stay but always there if you need anything. Having the use of the field for dog walking is such a convenience and bonus. For us Lapford is very conveniently located enabling us to visit various friends in Devon. The cottage is very well equipped (although the kitchen could do with a grill pan!), the beds are comfy and the cottage is beautiful. Being within walking distance of the local pub is also handy!!!! I'm sure we will be back for a 3rd, 4th, 5th etc visit in the near future!

Hannah B

The cottage was beautiful. It was very clean and everything I thought it would be and more. The kitchen is so well equipped (much more so than my own) and the bed linen and towels were of the best. The bed I slept in was very comfortable indeed.

Alex and Anne are wonderful hosts and are on hand anytime if you need anything.

The surrounding countryside is so very peaceful and all in all we had a very relaxing Christmas break.

Carol P

We were very happy with our stay in Lapton Mill Cottage. The kitchen was well supplied with utensils and cooking equipment; the bathroom and shower room were also nicely stocked. Everything was clean. The cottage was beautifully quiet and the gardens were pleasant to explore. We felt welcomed without being overwhelmed. It was a very pleasant home to come back to at the end of the day.

Felicity M

The cottage was great, right next to the historic mill. Huge garden and paddocks gave our two children plenty to explore. The cottage had lots of space and two good size bedrooms. It was also very well equipped and the owners had kindly provided some non perishable essentials which was a nice touch. Peaceful, rural location but with good transport links to get to the north coast or down to Exeter. Would definitely recommend to others.

Giles S

Great location, fantastic gardens and woodland the dogs loved it as much as we did.

lovely cottage. lovely welcome form Alex and Ann.

Philip K

House itself had everything you needed for a self catered stay. Set in lovely grounds with ample space for dogs to be let out for a run in the garden. Less than 10 min walk from a great country pub -

The Malt Scoop which served very good reasonably priced food and a warm welcome. 30 min drive to bigget towns of Barnstaple or the city of Exeter. Great rural retreat if you need a bit of quiet/ relaxation.

Rhys H

Thanks to Alex & mum Annie for letting us stay in this wonderful old cottage. They are lovely people nothing too much trouble even had flowers on kitchen table on arrival. The grounds were lovely, full of wildlife owls buzzards, squirrels etc.Easy access to anywhere in Devon due to its central position. The old malt scoop pub was excellent, good food, good local ales friendly bar staff and local people. Thanks Alex for the tour of the water mill very interesting and good luck with all your plans for it.We would love to go back in future and highly recommend this cottage to anyone.Nice & clean with all amenities you could want.We had a lovely relaxing 2 weeks even though the weather was wet and windy.Once again Alex thanks from Ann & Pete from Yorkshire.

Comfortable, tidy and had everything we needed. Plenty of outdoor space for the dogs to have a run around. Good host, very imformative when showing us around the mill.

Paul D

Both Alex and Anne are very sociable and friendly people. All our requirements were met by the cottage. It was comfortable, airy and clean. The location was perfect for our needs being half way between Dartmoor and the North Coast. The village of Lapford is also very friendly with the people we met being sociable.

Adrian and Tracy Stonley S

Really well equipped cottage, with attractive garden and views of the railway from the house. Owners were really helpful and friendly - good luck with the mill conversion, and thanks again for a lovely stay.

Anne S

My wife and I and our two doggies spent three nights in the mill cottage last weekend.

What a fabulous place to stay! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Alex and his mum Anne and made to feel extremely welcome.

The cottage is lovely clean and spacious and provides excellent facilities.

The dogs were blessed with 4 acres of gardens to run around in, and the walk to the local pub is approximately half a mile.

We cannot recommend this lovely cottage highly enough, and wish Alex and his mum all the the best for the future. We will be back!

Karina Steve and doggies

This peaceful cottage had all that we needed for a very comfortable 6 night stay. Alex and Anne are the perfect hosts. The large grounds offered our 2 children the opportunity to explore and run off their excessive energy, whilst we enjoyed a relaxing drink in the pleasant surroundings.

Only a couple of minutes walk to the village shop for any essentials. Ten minutes walk to the Malt Scoop for a splendid mix of excellent food, local beers and friendly conversation.

Lapford is located equal distance from the north and south Devon coasts which is ideal for chasing the sun and getting out and about.

This was our second visit to the cottage. We all absolutely love the time we have spent here and will definitely be looking for an opportunity to visit again.

John B

We found this a wonderful place to stay. The cottage is charming, comfortable and very well equipped and there are large grounds to explore and enjoy. The location was ideal for our excursions to both north and south Devon. We particularly appreciated the warm welcome and the tour of the very interesting mill.

Penelope W

The beauty of this cottage is its setting. The land was perfect for our two daughters and dogs to run around. We had a lovely time and the cottage was cosy and welcoming. Alex, the owner, was so friendly and helpful.

Lynsey K

We were warmly welcomed by Alex to a superbly equipped cottage in an idyllic setting. A fabulous pub just up the hill put the icing on the cake - we couldn't have asked for more! Will definitely be returning.

Sharon O

We had relied on a previous recent reviewer for confidence in booking and we loved this cottage. It was everything we expected and more. Warm, cosy, incredibly clean and tidy. Great central location, good little shop at local garage 200 metres away and good pub in short walking distance - uphill there so downhill back! Fab to walk our dogs in safety in grounds early morning and evening and Alex and Annie warm and friendly hosts. The Internet was absolutely fine on our phones but my old laptop wouldn't connect so just be aware. Alex did say he has plans to improve the signal to the cottage. Not that we wanted it but I think there was only one tv Chanel. We rarely go to the same location twice but we would certainly consider visiting Lapford Mill again if Alex and Annie will have us! A big thank you to them.

David Y

What a wonderful stay we had. Alex and his family were very welcoming and the cottage is just lovely. From the moment we arrived at the well equipped cottage and the lovely homely touches and beautiful flowers it was a joy to stay - cosy, very clean and situated perfectly to explore Devon, Somerset and Dorset.

Thank you guys for inviting us along to your firework display and bbq which was above and beyond! We would recommend this cottage anytime and are planning to return when we can

Sue M

We really enjoyed our time in the village of Lapford. Good location for a rural retreat - great for dogs and very relaxing! Would certainly recommend it. The owners are very helpful and when the water mill on site is fully functioning, this will be quite idyllic!

Nigel Gordon-Potts

We arrived to a very warm welcome by Alex and his mother, immediately took the dog for a walk in the meadow adjacent to the cottage.

Enjoyed a relaxing few days, cottage is well equipped to a very high standard, lots of little luxury touches like beautiful curtains, superb shower room and bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped as well with everything imaginable that you need to self-cater. The most comfortable beds, bliss and no light pollution, we slept long and deeply.

Alex gave us a tour of the mill which he is restoring to its former glory and an informative talk of its history. The break was over far to quickly, whilst away we enjoyed wonderful drives around the very quiet Devon countryside, the Autumn leaves of the multitude of English native trees was a spectacle to behold.

We would certainly recommend Lapford Mill Cottage it's an absolute gem in breathtaking surroundings. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Anne C

Lovely property run by lovely people. Will be recommending to all of my family and friends. Large accommodation with fantastic grounds for my two dogs who were very welcome. Spacious bedrooms and very well equipt kitchen. Would definitely stay again! Thanks again!

Rebecca P

Great location for visiting either the North of South Devon coast (plus Exmoor and Dartmoor). Very cozy and comfortable accommodation with a mini supermarket just a short walk away. The adjacent water mill and the ongoing mill restoration project provided added interest.Highly recommended for a tranquil and comfortable stay in Devon. Thank you Alex and Annie.

David P

We stayed in the cottage for four days during September.

The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and peaceful.

Alex and Anne were both very helpful and friendly and happy to answer any questions we had about the Mill history and the local area.

We enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere and also investigating the various plants and trees in the private grounds

We will certainly consider staying there again on future visits to Devon.

XIAOLU YE

Lovely accommodation with good facilities and quiet pleasant grounds

Very relaxing few days just what we wanted and got

A really nice local pub with good food close by

Thanks for the viewing of the mill with your plans to bring it back to its former glory

George A

The cottage was very comfortable, clean and cosy, just as described and photographed,. We walked on good footpaths in the surrounding area and enjoyed wonderful views of the rolling Devon countryside. Lapford is within easy reach of the National parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor and also the North and South Devon coastlines. We visited two National Trust properties in the district, Knightshayes and Castle Drogo, both easily be reached by car. We also visited busy Ilfracombe but preferred the small village of Lee on the North Coast where we swam in the sea at a rocky beach. There is a convenient shop at the garage only five minutes' walk from the house. Our hosts, Alex and Annie, were very friendly, welcoming and hospitable We very much enjoyed our tour of the mill and hearing of Alex's plans for its restoration. We had a great time Many thanks Alex and Annie.

Julie O

The property was a comfortable two bedroomed stone built cottage. It was exactly as outlined in the sales information. The property was clean and comfortable. The Gaters were very pleasant and informative and made our stay extremely enjoyable. We would definitely use this property for a holiday again. It was very animal friendly and we were able to use the whole garden area including the owners own area.

With three young children to consider, we chose this cottage as it was centrally positioned to both North & South Devon as well as Dartmoor National Park.

On arrival we were overwhelmed by the beautiful and peaceful setting, with the cottage enjoying its own private gardens and sun terrace overlooking the Mill, and enjoying access to the adjoining meadows which have many oak trees, a pond and the Tarka railway running along the far boundary. The whole experience was truly amazing and the children (9, 7, 4 yrs) were able to run and play as if in a lost world of yesteryear.

The cottage was clean, well equipped and the beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. The children spent quite a lot of time playing the Honky Tonk piano in the kitchen!!

The owners were very welcoming throughout our stay, with nothing being too much trouble and Alex gave us a tour of the Mill, explaining to the children (they hung on his every word!) how it worked and the restoration plans.

The Malt Scoop Pub in the village was very child friendly and served fantastic food, while the Garage and Store took care of daily needs. Top Tip: we had our main supplies delivered by Sainsbury's, the day we arrived.

We would highly recommend this cottage and are looking forward to re-visiting again to enjoy the unique tranquility of this special place.

Thank you Anne & Alex for a wonderful holiday and the children loved the bird watching sheets you supplied.

Phil W

Lapford Mill Cottage is a gem of a find. The owners are friendly and welcoming and could not have been more accommodating. The cottage itself is spacious, cosy and comfortable - with wonderfully comfortable beds. The grounds are extensive - a sun-trap terrace, grassy areas, a meadow - all very peaceful and relaxing. We would definitely recommend this property and look forward to staying here again ourselves, in the future.

Lynda H

A very warm welcome from Alex and Anne. Cottage a wonderful place to stay. Our dog who was recuperating found the attached meadow ideal for short walks. All the facilities were as expected, very comfortable bed. Local petrol station and shop just 3 minutes walk. The pub in the village provides excellent meals with friendly service. Ideal center to visit the area from. We enjoyed Alex showing us round the mill, in process of renovation, and explaining his plans for the future

We will come again is available, when we next need to visit Mid Devon, and will recommend to our friends and family.

Norman P

Property as described and did not disappoint. The grounds idyllic, and perfect for those wanting to holiday somewhere with their dog. The owner Alex was welcoming and helpful. A personal tour of the watermill and proposed renovations added to the enjoyment. We would certainly return and recommend this property to others.

An excellent few days at the Mill Cottage. Very convenient for me as I was in Devon to Fly Fish for trout with lots of fishing opportunities within an hour. The Mill has a short stretch of water with fishing rights and in 15 minutes I managed to hook and release 2 fish. Alex was helpful and the cottage was as advertised and the view out of the kitchen window was stunning. You are in the country and the driving can be interesting as some of the Devon roads are two way but only enough room for one vehicle, you get to hone your reversing skills! Parking was available though turning into the driveway is a bit tricky. I would have given the cottage 5 stars but the WiFi was not great and I need to be contactable when away from home and unfortunately there is no signal on the mobile network I use. I know Alex is hoping to upgrade the WiFi soon when BT bring fibre optic to the village. I loved the Cottage and hope to return,

Brian S

We stayed 6 nights in lovely Lapford Mill Cottage and were blessed with good weather so could really enjoy the delightful grounds. Alex and his mum Annie were delightful hosts and Alex very kindly showed us around the mill and explained all the dreams he has for it. Annie gave us a scrumptious cream cake that vanished quickly! The beds were wonderfully comfortable with high quality mattress toppers and lovely John Lewis bed linen. I was delighted to sleep very comfortably on a gorgeous goose and duck down pillow. The house was well equipped with washing machine and dishwasher as well as a freezer. The gardens and grounds were a total joy to our springer spaniel and we loved seeing the trains of the Tarka Line passing by. Remember to go and eat at The Malt Scoop in the village. Please make sure you visit Ashton's Coffee Shop in the Market Square in Crediton.

Maria O

On first impressions the interior was a bit old fashioned but once settled in then we appreciated the views from the bedrooms, the spaciousness upstairs, grounds leading to the river and the sunny terrace. Of course the outside is definitely old!

There were only 2 of us but plenty room for 2 more, with 2 bathrooms and all facilities. Parking is outside the front door so not far to go.

There's a 'piano' in the kitchen (not sure why!) And if you are a bird watcher numerous bird feeders in the garden. Local pub is good and within walking distance and train spotting opportunities are on the door step.

We stayed at this lovely mill cottage at the end of April. The owners made us most welcome. We particularly enjoyed chatting with Alex about the mill and his plans. Alex kindly showed us round the mill and explained how it worked. The cottage was very comfortable and had all we needed for a carefree stay. Sitting outside with a cup of coffee in the late afternoon sunshine or walking round the extensive garden was a great way to relax before walking up to the pub for a lovely evening meal. The cottage was a great base for getting out and visiting the area. We enjoyed visiting Minehead and walking along the esplanade, Marwood Hill Gardens, Greenway (Agatha Christie's summer house), Dunster Castle and the coastal walk to Baggy Point (the inspiration for author Henry Williamson). We would gladly revisit this peaceful cottage.

What a beautiful place to stay. The cottage was immaculate and the gardens gorgeous. We were made to feel so welcome by the owners and would highly recommend staying here if you want to relax and get away from it all. Lapford also boasts a friendly local pub ' The Old Malt Scoop' which is equally friendly and a menu to suit all. All in all we had a fantastic time away .
