About Us

Lapford Mill is located in the heart of the Devonshire countryside with roots dating back to the 12th Century.  The complex comprises the owner's house, dating from about 1325 along with a Victorian watermill and converted stables cottage. To the east is the beautiful waterwheel garden and further  grounds extending approximately four acres.

Despite many renovations, the mill suffered dilapidation and damages due largely to the recent extreme weather conditions. In 2012 the great floods caused extensive damage to the leat sluice gates, the waterwheel and the weir, however the machinery inside the mill is still in tact and the 12' waterwheel has been redressed.

Open to visitors 3 days in the summer

Lapford Mil complex and grounds are located behind a gated entrance from the foot of Lapford village.  With the properties arranged around a central courtyard boasting private and secluded rambling grounds to explore for the exclusive use of the owner and guests at the cottage.  The watermill and grounds are opened by the owner on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the high season where the owner and a small team welcome visitors to see the machinery and serve local hot and cold refreshments (and great coffee!) until 2pm, and a licensed bar is available in the watermill from midday until 6pm.

The park is managed to promote wildlife, combining formal lawns with long grasses & wildflower banks, and is a great spot for social occasions, events and peaceful reflection!
